Properties and uses:
The Chinese Quince Tree is a small tree with considerable ornamental value.
The foliage is made of toothed, shining green leaves which turn orange and red in autumn. The leaves will fall in winter, but as an occasional semi-evergreen, they can persist until spring if the tree is in a sheltered spot.
In April and May, the fragrant pale pink to bright pink flowers appear and the big fruits appear as soon as early summer.
The fruits are yellow and smooth and can be harvested in late October. Their fragrant pulp is appreciated and can be eaten fresh or cooked in jellies, jams or pies.
The Chinese Quince Tree has a unique bark pattern of a mottled olive green, brown and grey, similar to camouflage, which peels off in long orange slabs in spring.

Plant them now: the shortest way to your plate is through your garden!
