Bamboo Fargesia nitida 'Gansu'

Geographic Origin: Far East (China)
Adult size: 2.5 to 3 metres in height.
Foliage: Evergreen.
Type of soil: Moist and deep. Does not like excessive chalk.
Exposure: Full shade (to partial shade in Northern Europe). Preferably protected from direct sun
Hardiness: -20°C.
Root development: Clumper root system (non-spreading variety).


Properties and uses:
This medium-sized bamboo has an upright bearing with the top of its branches slightly weeping. The slender and silky foliage is very smooth to the touch. The stalks tend to turn deep red, even black, and offer a nice contrast with the light green spring foliage, which is typical of the Nitida clones. It grows late in the year (from April until June).
This Fargesia variety can be planted in a hedge, in isolated clumps or in a container.
