Properties and uses:
The Vaccinium vitis-idaea is a small ground-covering shrub in the Cranberry or Blueberry family. In the spring, the white, bell-shaped flowers give way to small red berries. They have an acidic-sour taste, and they are used for making sauce, jelly or jam. Very decorative, they are also used in floral art, flower arrangements or table decorations.
In its natural habitat, this evergreen shrub grows in shady mountainous zones where the soil is light, acidic, and stony.
In the garden, the Mountain Cranberry tolerates difficult conditions such as cold, shade or poor soil. Add Heather earth when planting to lighten the soil and make it more acidic.
