Everything about: Rough Horsetail, Common Horsetail, Scouring Rush

Rough Horsetail, Common Horsetail, Scouring Rush - Equisetum hyemale, Equisetum americanum (latin)

Geographical origins: Central America, South America.
Adult dimensions: from 0,60 m to 1 m, Rough Horsetail has a tendency to invade its environment.
Foliage: Evergreen.
Type of soil: Neutral to acid, wet to flooded (up to 10cm).
Climate: Hardy to -15°C.
Site: Full sun to partial shade.
Plantation density: 3/m².

Characteristics and uses:
This American Horsetail is a perennial plant which differs from the Barred Horsetail by its stems which are a lighter green and its rootstock less invasive. The Rough Horsetail needs a lot of water, so it is recommended to plant it near a water spot, a place which suits this semi-aquatic plant.
It can be planted in pots in gardens and on terraces, to offer a very graphical display. It will then be necessary to water it regularly.
Your Common Horsetail will look even more beautiful if you cut the dry stems. Also think about removing some of its vegetation if it does spread out too much.
