Oak Leaved Hydrangea –
Hydrangea quercifolia (latin)
Area of origin: United States.
Adult Dimensions:
Height up to 2 m (6.6'), width up to 1m (3.3').
Foliage: Deciduous.
Soil Type:
Wet and well drained.Enrich if too poor. Dislikes lime.
Hardiness: Hardy to -23°C.
Exposure: Semi-shade to full sun.
Characteristics and Uses:
The white flowers of this hydrangea hang in large panicles of 20-30cm (7.8-11.8"), they become pink at the end of flowering. They light up the garden from July to September and can be used to make magnificent dried floral bouquets. The leaves of this hydrangea can measure up to 30cm (11.8") long. They become a magnificent colour of purple and orange in the autumn. Hydrangeas are well known for brightening the northern aspect of buildings but are equally effective under trees, in flowerbeds or mixed groups.
