Black Lilyturf or Black Dragon or Ebony Knight - Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens'

Characteristics and features: This hardy plant is ideal for creating contrasts whether planted in open ground or in pots. Its almost black foliage sections off rockeries or efficiently defines edges of flowerbeds. It spreads slowly via its underground stems which produce buds above soil (rhizomes). It is worth noting that the Black Lilyturf can support light pedestrian traffic.

Its small pinky-white blooms appear discreetly in summer amongst the foliage. Their delicate bell-shaped flowers are similar to those of 'lily of the valley'. The small oval berries that are produced, turn blue/black when mature and contain a toxic seed.
